Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Review

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

Urban Decay is a US-based brand, well known for the Naked series of palettes. With the success of Naked 1 (neutral-gold), Naked 2 (cool-silver), Naked 3 (rose-gold), Smokey (dark hues), they came out the mini versions of each of these palettes called Naked Basics. Naked Basics 1 (warm-matte) didn't interest me much as Naked Basics 2 which I thought would be a great on-the-go palette. I snagged in from Beautybay during one of their sales at a marked down price.

UD Naked 2 Basics is an all matte palette with 6 shades leaning towards cool tone and with a lot of gray/taupe undertones.

  • Skimp: Yellow-beige

  • Frisk: Cool light gray
  • Cover: Light brown
  • Primal: Gray-brown

Performance

  • Extremely powdery
  • Blends well
  • Brush picks up excess product
  • Some shades won't show up on tan skin (Cover literally blends into my skin)
  • Nice transition shades for lighter skin

Verdict

If you are pale, matte, and cool tone shadow loving person, you may love it (that's way too many checkbox to tick), else let it pass.

So, what are your thoughts about this palette?

Currently Loving

Friday, June 10, 2016

I am having major makeup-withdrawal symptoms, with my look being minimalistic (read, boring) 99.99% of times. Listing few products that I have been using consistently over the last month or so. They may not be a life-long love or favorite, but ranks up in the order of daily love.

UD 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Stag l $20 (Full Size)

The travel size eye pencil was part of UD On The Run palette. The color can be described as a dark chocolate brown  with multi-dimensional glitters. If black is the stronger sibling, brown is the softie in the family. On days when I don't want to do the whole black eyeliner routine, I turn to this pencil as it gives a soft look to my eyes. It's very creamy and is not the best trooper on the water line. On my upper lid, it stays put for 5-6 hours max. Also, a major con (not really for me) is that you need to sharpen the pencil.

Dupe Alert: Chambor Eye Tattoo Liner ET04

Lakme Insta-Liner l INR 100

90's girls would definitely have a major throwback moment with this fatty. Most of you might have owned one of these chubby bottles at some point in your life. I use it to apply bindi, but lately, I have been using this for drawing my winged eyeliner. The thin tip makes it easy for a precise wing and I go in with the Maybelline Colossal Liner to fill in any missed spots. The liner tends to bleed slightly and also takes ages to dry (hooded eye girls beware).

Sephora Mango Creamy Body Wash l INR 520

I am a big time scent person and my showers be like:
My Instagram Page

I love burning BBW candle, playing Yellow Brick Media soothing music while taking my hot shower.

This body wash smells like mango and doesn't dry out my skin, but I am not a big fan of the cost per utilization. I tend to squeeze out more product as this shower cream doesn't lather nicely. My BBW shower gels ($5 on sale) last longer and lathers up nicely with less product. I will not be purchasing this again, as I feel it's too expensive for daily use.

MAC Lipstick in Twig l INR 1450

This is my go-to lip shade since I purchased it last month. If you are a tad bit tanner than me (For ref, MAC NC 42 Studio Fix Powder) the shade might clash with your skin tone. The color can be described as a dusty pink with a matte finish.

Lotus  Safe Sun Matte Gel l INR 395

This sunscreen isn't greasy like many other sunscreens in the market. The gel-like consistency doesn't create an ashy white cast nor does it sit funny on my skin. Also, the product works well as a base for my foundation.

Colourpop Eyeshadow in Desert l $5

Fancy an eyeshadow look to the office? I have been using Desert on my lids for the past few weeks. The shade can be described as a light satin flesh-tone beige. As with any Colourpop shadow, the consistency is very mousey and very easy to blend. I have reviewed it here.

5 Waterproof Makeup to Try

Monday, June 6, 2016

Taking your date out for a swim on the first date? You ain't gonna smudge even the eyeliner boo, cause ain't you smart enough to have heard of waterproof makeup? No?? Well read on!

Image: Google

1. Maybelline The Falsies Waterproof Mascara l INR 450

I am blessed with long lashes and I don't usually wear mascara , but if I were to pick a waterproof version of mascara that would allow me to watch my favorite rom-com even while balling my eyes out, I would definitely choose Maybelline Falsies mascara. No one wants to take a pretty raccoon out for a second date. The Falsies mascara gives good length and volume to my eyelashes and it is pretty affordable too.

2. Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation (4N2:Spiced Sand) l INR 2790

A long wearing foundation that doesn't budge come what may, rain, sweat or even the swimming lesson! Comes in whooping 20 shades to suit any undertone from warm to neutral to cool. The foundation doesn't oxidize neither does it separate. Finish is super matte which in turn looks pale, I have to add a little blush to make to look lively. After 4-5 hours, my natural oils starts peeking, nothing crazy, making the look more demi-matte or satiny. Without a mattifying primer, I have to go in for my first blot in 7 hours which is a good wear time considering the area that I live in.

3. MAC Piantpots l INR 1850

If you have experienced  eyeshadows creasing on your lids, adopt a MAC painpot.  Paintpots serve multiple purposes, from covering the veins on the lids to letting the vibrancy of the eyeshadow to shine through to holding the eye makeup for hours. Painpots will hold on to the eyelids and will prevent eyeshadow from creasing while you are breaking a sweat on the dance floor.

4. Chambor Extreme Wear Liquid Lipsticks l INR 845

The liquid lipsticks are far more long-wearing than your regular lipsticks and these Chambor ones have cleared the water test with flying colors. They dry to a matte finish that can be a little too drying for some. I have reviewed the lipsticks here.

5. LA Girl Matte Makeup Setting Spray l $7

I use makeup spray to remove powderiness from my face, to mattify, and hold my makeup. Use a setting spray to increase the staying power of your makeup by 3-4 hours. Tried tested and the Girl with a pearl earring approved.

Water Test

A: Initial Swatch; B: Under Water for 5 Minutes; C: After Rigorous Wiping
I let the product swatches to set for 30 minutes before running the swatches under the tap water for 5 minutes straight. The Falsies mascara did feather a little, but the other swatches stayed put.

I started rigorously wiping the swatches with my fingers, and the Estee Lauder foundation started to pull off, whereas the MAC Paintpot swatch and Chambor Extreme Wear lipstick swatch came out as clear winners.
