I am an eyeshadow palette junkie, not that I can create YouTube -worthy looks every day, but something about the thought that goes into creating a palette inspires me. For this countdown, I will be considering only pre-made palettes.

Here are my top 5 palettes purely based on usability, versatility, performance, and color scheme.

5. Zoeva Caramel Melange l $27

A relatively newer palette in my arsenal and for that matter ranked at number 5 is this inexpensive 10 pan palette from Zoeva. This palette is on par with most high-end palettes, shadows are very blendable, pigmented and long wearing.The color selection varies from Wax Paper (brow bone highlight), Alchemy/Start soft/Finish Sensual/Aftertaste/Universal Delight (crease shades), 182c/Liquid Centre/Almost Burnt/Edible Gem (lid shades) that would enable you to create different looks.

4. ABH Master Palette by Mario l $45 l Link

The much raved, LE, ABH Master Palette by Mario by Mario Dedivanovic, Kim Kardashian's makeup artist. Much like Mario's style, the palette has a lot of shimmers and very muted ones at that. The palette offers a wide variety of muted, toned down shades. The only downside? There is something lacking in this palette, probably a dark matte shade. It is difficult to get a wide range of looks as most colors look alike. The shadows are buttery soft, blends really well and are very pigmented.

3. Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly l $36 l Link

This palette was initially launched as a limited edition product, inspired by the colors of Peanut Butter and Jelly. The product broke the internet and Too Faced was forced to bring it back in 2016 fall. This palette comes in a tin like packaging making it a sturdy travel companion. The palette consists of 9 shades, Peanut Butter and Nuts About U are the perfect crease shades for tan skin, Bananas and Peanut Brittle as the lid shades. Jelly (purple with glitter) brings in the much-needed color to the otherwise muted palette.

2. MUG X Manny MUA l $45 l Link

Love him, hate him, but you just can't ignore him. This was a limited edition collaboration between MUG and Manny MUA which became a runaway hit and for all the right reasons. This palette is very well thought through, considering all the colors suits people from fair to medium-tan skin tone. Also, the right mix of matte and shimmers makes it a complete palette. This palette has everything from browns to pinks to duo chrome to fiery red, making it a 10/10 palette.

1. ABH Shadow Couture World Traveler l $30 l Link

My No.1 palette for 2 years in a row. This palette was my first encounter with ABH eyeshadows and what can I say, the quality of the shadow is amazing, the color selection varies from matte, pressed glitter, shimmer, to satin. Be a neutral look or a colorful look, this palette can do it all. Sadly, this was a limited edition palette. Morocco and Fudge (also available as individual pans) are my JAM and pink champagne is my favorite eyeshadow of ALL-TIME!

Products I Love, But Refuse To Use

I have hoarding tendencies, especially, when it comes to eyeshadow palettes. There is always a new palette that catches my fancy, there is always that limited edition product. The "self-control" struggle is real. Today, I am listing down 5 products that I love with all my heart, but refuse to use for various reasons.

The Original BeautyBlender l $20

I love a good blender sponge, as blending my foundation is the only cardio I am used to. Sponges revolutionized the way makeup is applied and literally, forced brushes out of the market. I have a love-hate relationship with the RT beauty sponge, and my dislike gradually evaporated once I tried the PAC Beauty Blender (*open AMAZON and buy that pink beauty, you will thank me later). I purchased the OG on a whim from BeautyBay, but have never used it in full glory.

Reason: Cleaning. I am perpetually scared of the sponge growing mold. Also, cleaning the sponges can be a bit tricky, especially, getting the soap out of it's inner soul.

NARS Audacious Lipsticks l $32

I own three NARS Audacious lipsticks, they are the best lipstick formula I have tried, opaque in one swipe, creamy, yet, 5+ hours of wear time with greasy/oily food. I can't seem to stop talking about them, and then, they are the least used lipsticks in my collection

Reason: Cost, at 32 Dollars a pop, I have a crazy heart pull each time I take it out of my of the drawer.

ABH Modern Renaissance Palette l $42

The most raved about palette of 2016 is nothing less than a superstar. As much as I love the warm colors, I hardly use them on a day to day basis.

Reason: Most of my office wears clash with the colors and I find them a little too bright for a non-makeup friendly workplace like mine.

ABH Dipbrow Pomade l $18

Brows from the gods, that's the effect this product gives me. The product is an absolute favorite, but I refuse to use it for the following reason!

Reason: Inconvenience. My usual office routine is less than 5 minutes long and to include a product that comes with an additional brush and one that requires a lot of patience is a con.

MAC Painterly Painpot l $ 22

On days when I feel like walking an extra mile, I apply the paintpot as a base for my shadows. This, in turn, increases the longevity and improves the eye shadow vibrancy, as per the textbooks, but I don't use a base whatsoever with my eye shadows!

Reason: I forget! I forget to apply an eye shadow base every freaking time.

Anti-Haul: Holiday Edition

Sephora VIB Sale is less than a week away. Hold your purses tight, fill up your cart, and shop to your heart's content or until your bank balance shows "Min Balance Available". As much as I love makeup, there are times, I paste a deep frown on my face when a see a particular release. This festive season, I am not going to spend my hard earned quid on the following products:

Too Faced Grande Hotel Cafe l $49

This adorable set comes with 18 eyeshadows, two blushes, a bronzer, and a mascara. It comes as three separate mini palettes that smell like peppermint mocha, eggnog latte, and gingerbread coffee. I love the concept, the presentation is to die for; you open up the Grande Hotel Cafe door to reveal the three mini palettes stacked inside. The issue here is the colors in the individual palettes. These are colors that won't work on a tan skin girl like me. I can see white pigments and not enough depth for each of the shadows to work. The blushes, again the same issue, it may work beautifully well on fair to medium skin, but on me, even a 100 layer challenge won't do the job! If you are  a makeup collector, by all means, go ahead and purchase the product for the cute packaging, I for one, don't see a point in spending 50 dollars just on the packaging.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Ultimate Glow Kit l $45

The Ultimate Glow Kit contains 6 warm highlighters housed inside a cardboard packaging. Fascination with "kits" continue; As a regular makeup consumer, how fast do you go through your highlighters? and does all the shades in a "kit" work for you? My answer is a big fat NO! I already own ABH That Glow kit that I will be handing over to my grandkids. I don't think that I should invest in another "kit" that I will never go through. If you are a makeup artist, you would be able to put good use while working on clients with  different skin tones. Also, two major pain points that I have heard while obsessively watching YouTube reviews on this are:

1. The kit is very warm and suitable for medium to dark skin tone only.
2. The kit is not like the That Glow kit, which has more subtle, wet sheen-like finish, this kit here is more sparkly and glittery, not a cute highlighted look if you have textured skin.

Urban Decay Junkie Vice Lipstick Palette l $35

This palette contains 12 lipstick shades housed in a gorgeous rose gold packaging. Lipsticks in a palette form? again the same reasoning as the "kits", I am no makeup artist, and I love my lipsticks in a tube, easy to just throw in the purse. Out of the 12 colors, I can see myself wearing just 6 colors. Crazy green, neon, sparkly lips, well, my family would disown me if I ever attempt a green lip! Adding to the woes is the packaging, cream products in a palette format is never a good idea, there are chances on intermixing and hassle of using a lip brush (comes with the palette). I believe some of the shades in here can be purchased individually in a bullet form.

HudaBeauty Eyeshadow Palette in Rose Gold l $65

When the palette was first revealed on Instagram, I wanted it so badly. The "Textured" eyeshadow shades were calling out to me. The launch coincided with ABH Mario Platte and on a second thought, I purchased the later owing to the colors and the quality of ABH shadows. Stephanie Nicoles's review solidified my decision, she didn't have many great things to talk about the palette. The cost, 65 dollars for a palette was also a major turn off.

Kat Von D Metal Matte  Palette l $60

The Matte-Metal palette houses 13 rich mattes and 9 metal crush shadows and is taking the beauty community by storm. The only reason why this palette made a cut here is that the colors are not my domain. I remember buying beautiful jewel toned colored shadows from Inglot back when my makeup obsession started. In a year, I realized that purples and greens are not my daily colors. It's easier to pull off a crazy neutral eye look than a simple colored look. The basic fun colors that I would require (if needed), I have as part of my existing neutral palettes and makeup geek eyeshadows. Also, I will never go through 75 gm of product in a lifetime.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Surreal Light l $80

This "limited edition" holiday palette houses 2 blushes, 2 bronzers, and a highlighter in a limited edition all marble packaging. The major con is the quids man, 80 dollars??? I would rather buy a travel size product of my favorite ambient powder $22 dollars that I would get good use of. The packaging looks bulky and not so travel-friendly. 

Liquid Lipsticks Mini Review: HudaBeauty, Anastasia, Colourpop, KatVonD

I am a recent liquid lipstick convert. I was happy and content in my traditional lipstick world and then miracle happened and beauty community introduced me to : LIQUID LIPSTICKS. I have only warmed up lightly to the idea of not having to reapply the lipstick at frequent intervals *(Side note: No more leaving the lipstick on the restroom counter)*.

I will be walking you through the pros and cons of liquid lipsticks as well as share my thoughts on the 4 liquid lipsticks I own.

Note: If you love liquid lipsticks, be ready to prep your lips with a sugar-oil exfoliant to remove the dead cells, and then apply a light coat of lip balm. This will prevent the lipstick from accentuating every line on your lips.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Kathryn l $ 20 (INR 1400)

This liquid lipstick is a recent purchase. The shade Kathryn is a beautiful mid-tone rose shade, perfect for dusky skin tones. The formula is thick and goes opaque in a single swipe. Five minutes post-application, my lips start to pull and feels dry. To counter attack the dryness, I apply few dots of clear lip balm on my lips. The lipstick stays put for 9+ hours.

Note: If you feel this liquid lipstick is too dry for your lips, apply a little lip balm.

Next on my wish list is Allison and Ashton.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Cheerleader l $20 (INR 1400)

A very light-weight formula that doesn't feel drying on the lips. Cheerleader is a bright red with an equal proportion of pink. After 7 hours, the lipstick starts to crack. If I have to pick a favorite among the liquid lipstick gang, Huda Beauty matte liquid lipstick would be the winner.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita1 l $20 (INR 1400)

The thinnest and the most comfortable formula out of the lot. That's all the cons I can think about on this one. Lolita 1 is a boring version of MLJustSame, a dusty mauvy-pink.The formula is not as opaque as the rest and disappears from my lips in 3 hours. At the end of the third hour, I can just find a little color on the outer edges and that's it! Another major warning: 'Do not layer this lipstick as it flakes on the second coat'.

Colourpop Satin Liquid Lipstick in London Fog l $6 (INR 420)

This liquid lipstick does not settle down into a complete matte formula and is also the messiest one to apply. London Fog is a bright pink shade.  For reapplication, a visit to the restroom is mandatory as any attempts to try the "NO mirror Challenge" might make you look like the "JOKER". Colourpop liquid lipsticks are very inexpensive. Also, it stays put for 6 hours. Post the 5-hour mark, I can see cracks around my inner rim.

Onam Edit Makeup

Onam is one of the two major festivals celebrated by Malayalis Hindus. My organization celebrated Onam in full spirit on 8-September. Competitions, pookalam (floral carpet), and traditional Onam sadhya were the highlights of 2016 Onam.

Women wear traditional set mundu (see ref pic) with golden borders and makeup, well, it is non-existent. This year I decided to theme my makeup around the color "GOLD".

I planned my makeup way ahead of time, 1 week before. On the D-Day, I had my fail-proof strategy put into motion:

Wake up	7:00 AM
Start the saree draping	7:30 AM
Finish saree draping	8:30 AM
Full-face of makeup	8:50 AM
Reach office	9:00 AM

Well, Murphy's law people, I was still struggling with saree at 9 AM , I was bombarded with phone calls from office as I had promised my team to reach office early for pookalam competition. All in all, I skipped/forgot whole lot of products that I had initially planned for, and ended using only handful of products.

Primer l Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector™

When I want my base to be sweat-proof and foundation to last, I turn to this bad boy. We had a lot of outdoor activities that day, and I knew I would be sweating like crazy and hence this primer.

Foundation l Makeup Forever Ultra HD 153

The best natural finish foundation I own. The major con of this foundation is that I start shining like a firefly (in a bad way) in a matter of 3-4 hours. You might be wondering, then why did I choose this foundation, the reason is: PICTURES my friends. Onam is that day when my office is filled with DSLR-wielding budding photographers who click pictures from all crazy angles, and I wanted to look non-ghostly and as naturale as possible. The foundation didn't last the whole 12-hours, but I can forgive that fact considering I did get some good pictures.

Blush l MAC Desert Rose

I wanted a matte muted blush that would not take away the focus from my eyes. This is the most prettiest matte blush I own and hence the obvious choice.

Eyebrow l ABH Dipbrow Pomade Ebony

Wanted something dramatic and powder just didn't cut it! I had to get the pomade out for the big and bold brows.

Eyeshadow l Lorac Pro

This was the toughest decision I had to take, cause I have so many palettes. It all came down to finding the perfect gold shade and the color, 'Gold' in the Lorac palette emerged as the clear goldie winner. I didn't have the time and patience to go in for a proper eye look, just gold over my lids, Taupe/Sable as crease shade and Espresso on the outer corner and I was out of the door!

Liner l Lakme Instaliner

The chubby kid helped me to wing it out el-perfecto!

Lipstick l HudaBeauty Liquid Lipstick Cheerleader

I have shit lots of lipstick in my stash and I wanted something very long wearing (I knew I would be gobbling down Onam sadhya) and bright, and liquid lipstick was an obvious choice. I  chose the shade Cheerleader as it is the perfect not-in-your-face red, but still bright enough to bring in some light to my face. The lipstick did fade around the inner corner of my lips post-sadhya, which I easily rectified by evening out the color with a clear lip balm.

Lipliner l MAC Spice 

Now, lipliners are understated beauty products. I used MAC lipliner in Spice to increase the longevity and add a touch of brown to mute the red (Some of my friends can be overly critical about red lipstick).

Contour and Highlight l Sleek Contour Kit Medium

If not for the LA Girl disaster, I wouldn't have chosen this contour kit. My contour looked natural and highlight was on-point.

I wanted to wear something cream based, so that it looks natural and easy to blend. Disaster struck, and the contour line was muddy as the nozzle dispersed way too much product. I had to clean up the mess and go in with my Sleek Contour kit in Medium to tone down the harsh lines.

Highlight l Becca Champagne Pop

ABH That Glow Kit was my first choice, but I ain't kidding around with the glow kids, I selected Champagne Pop for that glow from the gods, only to forget and use what I could lay my hands on: Sleek Contour kit in Medium.

The Ride or Die Makeup Tag

When I was watching Jaclyn Hill's Ride or Die Makeup Tag, I instantly knew that there was no way in this life or after, I would have a ride or die product in each of the makeup categories. There are so many products that I "LIKE", but not "LOVE"! I decided that I will just fill in categories where I have clear winners.

Primer l BECCA Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector™

This primer is the oil-sucking Edward Cullen of the primer category. Keeps my skin matte for 6-7 hours, and does a wonderful job in minimizing my pores. If you have dry skin, stay far far away from this primer, as blending the foundation on top will turn your face into a Sahara desert (dry patches).

Foundation l  <Yet to find my knight in shining bottle>

I am a foundation junkie, and I am always on the lookout for the next best thing in the market and for this very reason, I couldn't pick one foundation that rocked my boat. I like the finish of MUFE Ultra HD, wear time of Estee Lauder Double Wear, and coverage of NARS. Unless someone decides to come up with a hybrid as described, I would let this space be empty.

Every Indian girl will have either one of the two kajal as part of their daily beauty routine, probably one of the first "REAL" makeup item that we were introduced to. I prefer the later (Lakme) a tad bit more than the Colossal Kajal. I have had better-performing liners (Marc Jacobs), but at end of the day, I go back to these two.

This is a100 W bulb in a pot. The blush gives a nice coral luminous flush to my cheeks and hands down one of the most flattering coral shades on tan skin tone. Good job Milani!

Contour and Highlight l Sleek Contour Kit in Medium l Link

One of my first and most loved contour and highlight palette.The contour shade is perfect for my NC 42 skin tone and the champagne-hued highlight is nicely milled and doesn't leave a streak of highlight that can be seen from the outer space.

I have been sitting here on a Saturday, browsing online, and randomly adding things to my cart. "Black Friday Is Coming" and I am slowly making my wishlist.

I have never shopped from Macy's, but I have shopped from Sephora and Nordstrom (I even got my Nordstrom order shipped to India through ShipoutfromUSA). The main reasons, why I chose Macy's to build this wishlist are:

• Sephora doesn't ship to forwarding addresses.
• Macy's had a better offer on Clarisonic Mia 2.

I wanted to try the Anastasia liquid lipstick formula for the longest time; the opportunity never came as I was not a big fan of liquid lipsticks in general. Since my new found love, I have tried KVD, Bonjour, Colourpop, HudaBeauty and I realised that I prefer more of a thick formula like Colourpop. I am super excited to try ABH liquid lipsticks!

Tarte Tartelette Tease Eyeshadow Palette l $21 (INR 1470) l Link 

I want to hold a giveaway for my readers in the future and what better way to treat my readers than picking up an international brand that is not available in India. I had picked out Stila "Lips are sealed" Liquid lipstick set (link) and as I was searching, I found the Tarte eyeshadow palette, it is a perfect size for travel, and consists of 6 everyday neutral shades that most people love.

Clarisonic Mia 2 Garden Party Skin Cleansing System l $99 (INR 7000) l Link 

The "thing" that started it all, I am pretty gung-ho about skincare lately, and I wanted the Clarisonic skin cleansing system to deep clean my face once in a week. I wanted Mia 2, as it supported two speeds (Universal speed for daily cleansing and Delicate speed for sensitive skin) unlike Mia 1 which supports only 1 speed. Now, this is where it get's interesting, Clarisonic Mia 2 is available on Nordstrom website (link) for $129  whereas on the Macy's  website I will get additional brush head and cleanser all for $99, which I think is a super awesome deal.

Urban Decay Lipsticks Hitchhike, Ravenswood and Afterdark l $17 (INR 1190) l Link 

Urban Decay recently came out with whopping 100 shades in different finishes, ranging from sheer to ultra-mattes. I own one shade from the Vice-line, Rapture, a cream finish lipstick that I love. I so want to try the comfort matte finish that everyone is raving about. 
Hitchhike looks like an everyday neutral shade (peachy-brown), Ravenswood (reddish-brown), and Afterdark is clearly a side effect of watching TotalMakeupJunkie101.

Anastasia DipBrow Pomade (Ebony) Review

So, have you ever wondered how much pain and effort does on-fleek eyebrows require? well, 15 minutes roughly, confused??? let me explain.

Claims

Packaging

Comes in a small cardboard box, housed inside is a glass tub with plastic screw-on cap. Slightly bulky and very similar to the MAC paintpots.

Product

The product has a creamy consistency and the color, Ebony is the second darkest shade in the spectrum. The shade is a perfect match for my dark black hair. Because of the creamy consistency, if you rub your eyebrows, you can see the product smudged on your fingers. Otherwise, surprisingly, my brows look great even after 8 hours (the product doesn't budge or move unless disturbed by an external force).

Application

I use Anastasia brush number, 7 for the application. It's a dual sided brush; one side is similar to a small angled liner, the other side is a spoolie.

Take a tiny amount of product on the angled liner portion of the brush and apply in small strokes. If you have thin eyebrows, you can draw a small outline and fill in the brows using small strokes, mimicking the natural hair.

The pain of the whole process though is TIME. The brow powder or pencil is easier to clean up if you mess, or overdraw your brows. The dipbrow, on the other hand is not so forgiving and can go from perfecto to total disaster in a matter of seconds. It takes a lot of patience (small strokes) and time to achieve natural looking brows.

Verdict

Makeup Disappointments 2015

Now that we have covered the makeup revelations for the year 2015 (here), we should cross over to the dark side. Like Ying and Yang, dud products balance the goodness in the makeup world. Today we are rounding up the big duds  for the year 2015, the ones that claimed to make me even prettier than princess Snow White, only to fall flat on the ground with its tall claims.

1. ABH Contour Kit in Light-Medium: I was sucked into the contour bandwagon last year, only to realise that strobing and the excess of shimmer is way easier to explain to people that the streaky brown line on my cheek. Now that I have gained weight, there is only so little contouring can do. This contour kit was part of my Sephora US haul. I had picked up Too Faced Cocoa Contour Chiseled to Perfection palette initially, and when the order was cancelled, I purchased this one. One or may be maximum two times, I must have had the patience to use this kit, any other given day, I would happily contour using my Sleek Contour Kit or NYC bronzer. The colors don't show up on my NC42 skin and the yellow powder or the so called dupe of Ben-Nye Banana powder looks ashy under my eye. So much for 30 dollars (INR 2100).

2. Sigma Angled Contour Brush (F40): As I was struggling to blend off the contour streak, I purchased the Sigma angled contour brush in the hope of an airbrushed contour only to be disappointed. I like my contour brush slightly dense and firm like my RT Sculpting brush. This brush has sparse bristles that are not firm enough for blending.

3. MAC Lip Pencil in Devrish: The black sheep of the family, this lip pencil is not creamy and easy to apply like Spice or Soar, instead it applied patchy and blotchy. After reading the not so glorious reviews online, I had asked my husband not to pick this up, but he did and we have the name "Devrish-Dud" etched in history.

4. MAC Eyeshow in Cranberry: MAC eyeshadows are known for their pigmentation and this muted cool-tone purple shadow is a "purple" mark to the whole MAC eyshadow community. The pigmentation is virtually non-existent. I use this to fill-in my eyebrows. Its easier to carry around, and also I can gradually build it up due to poor pigmentation. Apart from these two pros, there is nothing positive to say about this product.

5. MUFE Step 1 Mattifying Primer: Cochin humidity has me going nuts, especially during weddings, where I apply my all out glam makeup and the moment I step out, it melts, the sweat just displaces my makeup and makes my face look like a shiny disco ball. This was one of the items apart from UD 2 that I asked my husband to purchase from Sephora Singapore. I had high hopes, only to be shattered twice.
a. The tube is tiny, don't be fooled, this little one costed me $16 (.5 oz) b. It didn't work any better than my Colorbar or Maybelline Primer, I mean this did nothing to keep my T-Zone oil at bay. At the end of the day, I was as shiny as I was with/without primer.
